Preussag redefines itself and moves into services, focusing on the travel industry.
The company acquires Hapag Lloyd AG, a global player in transport and tourism. Hapag Lloyd, with its fleet of aircraft, cruise ships and chain of travel agencies also owns 30 percent of Europe’s biggest travel company, TUI.

Owners Abroad becomes Owners Abroad PLC and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Owners Abroad (Wholesale Ltd) is formed.
1964 - TUI
At the AGM the abbreviation ‘Preussag’ is adopted as the new company name. With this the company continues to grow away from its traditional business sectors. In addition to the extraction and processing of primary products the Group now also becomes more strongly involved in transport.
1959 - TUI
Preussage issues shares and allows 22 percent of the capital stock to be acquired by people with an annual income of less than DM16,000. Overnight Preussag gains around 216,000 small shareholders and becomes Germany’s biggest stock corporation.
1950 - TUI
During the War Preussag lost over half of all its property and employees. The Berlin head office was destroyed. In 1950 the newly established administration moves to Hannover and in 1953 becomes the company’s official headquarters. The Berlin location is also retained.
1923 - TUI
Preußische Bergwerks- und Hütten-Aktiengesellschaft (Preussag Company, later TUI AG) is formed and operates predominantly in the areas of industry, transport and natural resources.
